EVENT CALENDAR
Below is a list of expected events. Most are reoccuring, such as holidays and school events, but plot events from mods and players may be added as well. If you would like to add an event, fill out the form at the bottom of the page and leave a comment, and we'll add the event to the calendar. All events for the month will be announced on the 1st along with all other mod updates and the Activity Check. For the sake of simplicity, we'll use normal months instead of the Remnant calendar.

January
8th - Annual Atlas Fair
Once a year, Atlas invites members of the other kingdoms to a grand showcase of Atlesian technology and wonders. There are events, forums, and interactive exhibits of new inventions as well as theoretical inventions of the future. Members of the other kingdoms are welcome to host an exhibit of their own, but are typically shuffled off to the side to make room for people who can best afford to brag. It's an excellent opportunity for brilliant minds of small means to get noticed and hired by big corporations, or even the military.
22nd - Field Day
Students at Beacon Academy embark on supervised trips to different parts of the kingdom (for Rooks and Bishops), or even other parts of the world (for Knights and Kings/Queens). The purpose is to gain more knowledge of differing cultures as well as gain experience fighting against known types of Grimm. A teacher is always on hand just in case something goes awry, and to make sure the students behave appropriately as representatives of Beacon Academy.
February
14th - Lovers' Day
It's basically Valentine's Day. Couples and spouses romance each other, while children and single people horf as much chocolate as they can get.
16th - Vytal Festival Preparations
Before the combatants show up, merchants from all over the world congregate on the island of Vytal - a free expanse of land north of Vale which was released from Vale's control for the purpose of providing neutral territory for leaders of the various kingdoms to come together in peace. It becomes the mother of all tourist traps with an immense bazaar catering goods from every corner of the globe. Hotels are often booked far in advance as people flock to the island, waiting for the Vytal Festival to begin.
March
6th - Vytal Team Trials
Only sixteen teams are allowed from each school to participate as combatants in the Vytal Festival. Eligible teams sign up, and the teachers decide which teams are best suited to represent the school. Many students sign up for a variety of reasons, as talent scouts often frequent the Festival in search of students to serve as youth speakers, prospective hires after graduation, and cereal mascots. Even more alluring is the prospect of being excused from classes until the end of the Vytal Festival so that teams can focus on their training.
23rd - Vytal Festival
The most highly anticipated event of the year! Students from age 19-22 compete in a bracket-style tournament against teams from other academies, though there are several who are able to enter independently of a school if there aren't enough teams able to compete. After half of the teams are eliminated, teams are reduced from four to two, and the final round is fought by single members from each of the two best teams. The leader of the team typically decides in advance which team members will participate if they make it to the semi-finals and the finals.
April
1st - Shattermoon Eve
This event is more popular in small towns than it is in the cities, where contests are held to see who can tell the best tale about how the moon wound up broken. In more recent years, the event is simply a storytelling gathering, and people recite poetry or stories that may not have anything to do with the moon. In Mistral, children are given three large moon dumplings made of sticky rice on a skewer, and race about trying to take bites out of other kids' moon dumplings before the timer runs out. Prizes are awarded to those who take the most bites and those who have the fewest bites on their own skewer. Several parents find this tradition to be too dangerous and refuse to let their kids indulge, but it keeps happening anyway.
5th - Spring Talent Show
An evening event where students sign up to show off their unique talents to the rest of the school. Prizes are awarded by a panel of student judges, and everyone who participates gets a coupon for a free pizza at Sister Patty's Pizzeria. What fun!
May
12th - Graduation Day
The class of Kings and Queens end the school year a month earlier than their younger classmates in order to undergo a special ceremony to receive their official license as a Huntsman or Huntress. Each team is publicly recognized by a teacher or the headmistress, with all other students in attendance to cheer on the graduating class. Some teams and individuals may be contracted immediately by villagers, companies, or even other Hunters in need of assistance, while others may wish to take some time off to spend with their families before setting out on their own.
24th - Day of Remembrance
A day to commemorate and remember the dead. Because grief is often so deadly and attracts the attention of the Grimm, people use this holiday to bring up happy memories of the people they loved, and talk about them in a positive light. Some may even go so far as to throw colorful parties with copious amounts of food and booze to keep spirits lively.
June
9th - Summer Break
Beacon Academy releases the rest of its students into the wild for a three-month summer break. Enjoy freedom while it lasts, and don't get into too much trouble!
24th - Trial of Maturity
Aspiring young warriors of Vacuo who reach the age of 18 set out alone to kill their first Grimm. The tradition is an old one that Vacuo has celebrated for hundreds of years, and though other kingdoms may criticize or condemn Vacuo for exposing its youth to such a dangerous trial, no Vacuan is inclined to shut it down any time soon. A partner may accompany an individual undergoing the trial to serve as a witness, but the partner may not intervene under any circumstances. Warriors who survive are treated to a fantastic celebration, with honors and prestigious positions granted to those who slay the biggest and most dangerous Grimm.
July
8th - Founder's Day
This holiday is primarily celebrated in Menagerie, though festival-starved kingdoms are slowly incorporating the holiday into their calendars as well -- both as a nod to their Faunus neighbors, and as an excuse to light off a bright showcase of colorful fireworks. It's a holiday of historical importance to the Faunus to celebrate their first Matriarch and Patriarch hundreds of years ago who helped to establish the settlement of Kuo Kuana, which has grown into the thriving Faunus paradise it is today. In Menagerie there's a lot of feasting and dancing, and at the end of the night the current Matriarch and Patriarch both give a speed and blessing over the Faunus people.
18th - Queen Chitaka's Birthday
The capitol of Mistral is decked out in brightly colored streamers and paper lanterns to celebrate the young queen's birthday. Formerly held in June to honor the king's birthday, the holiday has been changed due to Chitaka's ascension to the throne. Various vendors set up stalls and tables to sell fried food, jewelry and trinkets, and bags of colored rice to throw as a grand parade winds through the cobbled streets. It's common for people to seek out a fortune reading, but for those who are unable to see a diviner, they instead draw cards from a deck of fortune to see what their future holds.
August
12th - Fashion Gala
The wealthy elite gather in Atlas where designers show off their latest styles on the runway. As limited as this event is, the people of Mantle have made a 'fashion' show of their own, where they mock aristocrats and model the ugliest clothes they can throw together. This event is usually held in secret, but it's generally a rowdy affair with plenty of laughter, cheap beer, and complaining about the rich.
28th - Teacher Appreciation Day
As the teachers return to the Academy to prepare for a new school year, the headmistress throws a wild party especially for the instructors, though they're welcome to invite friends and family. Drinks are free and there's plenty of food to be had. There are drunken karaoke competitions and 15-minute massage booths, with gift baskets handed out to each of the teachers. The most anticipated event is the Teacher VS Teacher fights (though other school staff like janitors and cooks may participate too), where duels are decided by random drawing and bets are placed on those most favored to win. It usually takes at least three days to clean up the school after Teacher Appreciation Day.
September
3rd - First Day of School
For Rooks (1st-year students), this month serves as an orientation, where all share the same common area for sleeping and relaxation. Trusted older students and teachers help Rooks adjust to Academy life by taking them on tours of the school grounds and surrounding forests. Bishops, Knights, and Queens/Kings are allowed two days to settle into their assigned dorms and catch up with their teammates before classes begin.
30th - Rook Trials
At the end of orientation, Rooks are taken to a particular location (which changes every year) and given instructions to make it from one end to the other, retrieve a type of object (which also changes every year), and return to the starting point where students who retrieved the same object are grouped into teams of four. The location is riddled with harmless traps, obstacles, and mischievous teachers to test the students, though occasionally Grimm have been known to slither onto the scene in response to high levels of stress.
October
13th - Harvest Day
Previously this holiday took place on the last day of harvest for farmers, but because the differing climates resulted in varying dates, it was eventually settled on for official celebration on Midautumn 13th. Everyone works together to harvest and preserve as much food as possible for the coming winter months, and complete the celebration with a huge feast. Baked apples, roasted pumpkin, and mutton stew are the most common foods enjoyed on this day, though there may be regional differences (fish in Menagerie, rice in Mistral, etc.). It's traditional to give thanks to farmers either through word, letters, gifts, or money.
16th - School Battle Pageant
Rooks are treated to a day off from classes in order to observe their upperclassmen battle either each other, or a single Grimm, in an arena-like classroom. The event is heavily supervised by teachers to ensure the safety of the students. The purpose of the pageant is to demonstrate to Rooks how teams are more effective when working together.
November
16th - Eclipse
This event happens only once a year, where the broken moon is completely eclipsed. During the day, all Grimm go into a silent trance and don't hunt or attack humans. They will retreat from Hunters, but if left alone, they will simply watch the sky with eery intensity. Once the sun sets, the Grimm become frenzied, and even those that are more reclusive in nature will seek out humans to kill and devour. While big cities are likely to be protected, smaller Dust Barriers may not be able to withstand an onslaught if there are too many Grimm at once. Most villagers hire Hunters well in advance for protection.
25th - Beacon Formal Dance
Students plan for this event well in advance, with some concocting elaborate ways to ask out their fellow students. Those on the student council are in charge of choosing the theme of the dance and the decorations. Teachers are in charge of chaperoning the event to make sure no one spikes the punch, but they might indulge in a dance or two themselves.
December
15th - Winter Break
From the 1st through the 14th, students endure grueling mid-term exams and tests. On the 15th they're allowed to return home to spend time with their families, though the dormitory facilities and the cafeteria remain open to those who would prefer to remain on school grounds. Students are expected to return by the first Monday of January after the first day of the year.
25th - Peace Day
This holiday originated in Vale to celebrate King Chesnial's birthday, and his efforts to establish peace. As such, other nations often choose to celebrate this holiday as well. It's as close to a religious holiday as one gets, as committing crimes or fighting battles on this day is considered near-blasphemous. Friends and family exchange gifts, enjoy good food, and make an effort to forgive others for past slights. Those seeking forgiveness often offer gifts or acts of service to those they wronged.
